Czechoslovak People's Army
The Czechoslovak People's Army , Czech Československá lidová armáda , Slovak Česko-slovenská ľudová armáda (ČSLA) was the army of Czechoslovakia from 1954 to 1990. Since 1955 it was a member of the Warsaw Pact . The army was divided into army , air force and defensive air defense forces. Since Czechoslovakia was a landlocked country, it did not have a navy.
history
It was created in 1954 when the Czechoslovak Army , which was founded in 1918, was renamed , changed its name back to the Czechoslovak Army in 1990 and was divided into the armed forces of the Czech Republic and the armed forces of the Slovak Republic in 1993 .
structure
The armed forces were divided into two military districts . The western military district ( Tábor headquarters ) had two armies , the 1st Army in Příbram with a tank division and three motorized rifle divisions , and the 4th Army in Písek with two tank divisions and two motorized rifle divisions. In the eastern military district ( Trenčín ) there were two T-55 armored divisions . In addition, the Czechoslovak People's Army had the 22nd Airborne Regiment ( Kroměříž ).
All troops were assigned to the Central Group of the Soviet Armed Forces ( Milovice nad Labem headquarters ).
