geography

Source and history

The Tumbach - in dialect: Daunbach - rises about 2 km southeast of the town center of Heubach in the Ostalb district . It arises at the Hirschbrunnen , directly above the Steigenstraße L 1162 Heubach– Bartholomä on the northern serpentines of which sound in the forest , Trögteich won at about 640  m above sea level. NHN . From here it first runs southwest, soon west to the valley and after less than 400 meters it reaches the corridor boundary. After about twice this distance, it experiences its first tributary from the lower Nahe valley from the right , a small Kerbtalbach , in the course of which the Gutenbach spring is already at the bottom of the slope . About 200 meters further on, its largest tributary flows from the left, the Teufelsklinge , which has dug a longer and deeper valley, to just under 530  m above sea level. NHN . This watercourse is also sometimes seen as the origin of the Tumbach . On its remaining strong kilometer, the stream turns more and more in a north-easterly direction, takes from the right still the outflow of some springs lying close to it on the right, and then flows at 481.2  m above sea level. NHN from the right into the Beurener Bach , which becomes the Klotzbach , about one kilometer south-southwest of the town center of Heubach and between the spurs of the Scheuelberg in the west, the Nägelberg in the south and the Riedköpfles in the east.

Catchment area

The Tumbach drains part of the Albtrauf south of Heubach with an area of 2.4 km². The area naturally belongs to the Albuch and Härtsfeld . The 766.1  m above sea level. NHN's highest point is the summit of the Utzenberg on the eastern edge.

From there the right watershed runs on the north-northeast side over the Heidenburren and the Hochberg to the Riedköpfle spur and descends steeply from there to the confluence with the Beurener Bach ; the area outside drains on a short initial section to the upper Rems tributary Lauter , then mostly to the Hirschbach , which also flows into the Klotzbach in Heubach.

The opposite left watershed runs from the confluence over the long Nägelberg spur southeast, the other side of which is drained by the * Beurener Bach and its upper course Griesbach . From the aspects of the spur nails Bergs to Utzenberg back the southeastern watershed bordering on the valley end of the Tumbachs to the catchment area of the wentals that ultimately on the Hot to the Danube dewatered; this section of the catchment area boundary is therefore part of the European main watershed between the North Sea on this side and the Black Sea on the other. On the adjoining karstified Alb area, the first open watercourse in this direction begins very far away.

Over three quarters of the catchment area are forested. Open terrain can only be found on the valley floor and the lowest slope foot as well as on the Alnboch area on the Steigenkopf of the L 1162. The catchment area of the Tumbach belongs entirely to the Heubach city area. Settlement is limited to the Jägerhaus, a detached house next to the L 1162, which climbs the Albhöhe on its right slope over the entire length of the valley.
