The Tupolev Tu-70 ( Russian Туполев Ту-70 , NATO code name Cart ) was a passenger version of the Tu-4 bomber from the Soviet design bureau Tupolev . The Tu-4 itself was a replica of the American Boeing B-29 .

history

The Tu-70 (initially also called Tu-12) was equipped with a new fuselage and pressurized cabin that offered space for 72 passengers. The first flight took place on November 27, 1946. The flight tests of the model were successful and it was proposed for series production, which however never came due to lack of interest on the part of the state Aeroflot and due to more urgent military orders. On August 3, 1947, it was presented to the public at the air parade in Tuschino .

A freighter based on the Tu-4 / Tu-70 was developed under the designation Tu-75 .
