Turkey the Bridge is a British short film directed by Derek Williams in 1966, which he also produced and for which he was nominated for an Oscar .
content
The film provides a brief outline of the history of Turkey from the period 200 BC including the Turkish wars and the attack by the Greeks in the Greco-Turkish War, as well as the emergence of the individual religions . The crusades are discussed as well as the establishment of the Turkish state in 1923 as the successor state to the Ottoman Empire . The film also contains the Bridge of the Martyrs of July 15th , the oldest of three suspension bridges in Istanbul, which spans the Bosporus and forms the connecting element between the two continents of Europe and Asia, thus connecting the European with the Asian part of the city.
Images from the past are mixed with images of modern Turkey and its efforts to open up the country for tourism with everything it has to offer.
While the film opens with beautiful landscapes and impressions of Turkish cities, then shows pictures that symbolize the past, it ends with Hülya Babus with a belly dance and Gønül Turgut, who brings us closer to Turkish music.

The film was produced by Samaritan Films in collaboration with Shell Film Unit. Distribution was carried out by Paramount British Pictures and Schoenfeld Films. Turkey the Bridge was sponsored by the British Petroleum Company . Jack Carruthers acted as production manager.
