Tyler Bozak (born March 19, 1986 in Regina , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League since July 2018 . With the team, the center won the Stanley Cup in the 2019 playoffs . Before that, he spent nine years with the Toronto Maple Leafs .
Career
Tyler Bozak began his career as a hockey player in the junior league British Columbia Hockey League , in which he was active from 2004 to 2007 for the Victoria Salsa and Victoria Grizzlies. With the Grizzlies he developed into one of the best players in the league and was in the 2006/07 season with 83 assists and 128 scorer points in each case top submitters and top scorer of the league. From 2007 to 2009 the center attended the University of Denver and played for their ice hockey team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . With this he won the championship of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association in the 2007/08 season .
On April 3, 2009 Bozak signed a two-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs without having been drafted beforehand . In his rookie year in the National Hockey League , the Canadian scored eight goals in 37 games in the 2009/10 season and prepared another 19 goals. At the same time he played for the Farm Team of the Maple Leafs, the Toronto Marlies from the American Hockey League , for which he contributed 20 scorer points in 32 games. With the beginning of the 2010/11 season Bozak established himself in the NHL squad of the Maple Leafs.
After a total of nine years with the Maple Leafs, his expiring contract was not renewed in summer 2018, so he signed a three-year contract with the St. Louis Blues in July 2018 as a free agent . This should bring him an average annual salary of five million US dollars. In his first year in St. Louis, he promptly won the Stanley Cup with the team in the 2019 playoffs .
