Tyler Wright (born April 6, 1973 in Canora , Saskatchewan ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and current scout , who played 643 games for the Edmonton Oilers , Pittsburgh Penguins , Columbus Blue Jackets and Mighty during his active career between 1989 and 2007 Ducks of Anaheim in the National Hockey League on the position of the center .

Career

Wright began his career with the Swift Current Legionnaires in the Saskatchewan Midget Hockey League (SMHL). On the 1989/90 season, the 1.81 m tall striker moved to the Western Hockey League for the Swift Current Broncos . Wright was drafted in the first round of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft as the twelfth player by the Edmonton Oilers .

Wright played in the following years but mainly for the Farm Team of the Oilers, the Cape Breton Oilers in the American Hockey League . In 1996 he was transferred to the Pittsburgh Penguins , where he played a full NHL season for the first time in the 1997/98 season. In 2000, Wright was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the Expansion Draft . He remained there except for the lockout - 2004/05 season , which he spent partly in Swiss NLB when EHC Biel spent until the 2005/06 season . During that season he was transferred to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim along with other players in a deal , in return the Blue Jackets received Sergei Fyodorov . After he did not receive a new contract for the 2006/07 season , he played this mainly with Team Canada and four games with EHC Basel .

After retiring from the 2006/07 season, Wright returned as a coach to his former team, Columbus Blue Jackets, before taking on a scouting post there . Since the summer of 2013 he has worked as Dir. Of Amateur Scouting for the Detroit Red Wings .

International

Wright took part in the 1992 and 1993 World Junior Championships for Canada . In 1993 he was assistant captain and won the gold medal with his country. In 2002 he was a member of the Canadian team at the World Cup in Sweden .
