The Alte Heide underground station (abbreviation of the Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft : AH ) is an underground station in the Schwabing district of the Bavarian capital of Munich . It is located on the main line 1 of the Munich subway and is served by the U6 line.

history

The Alte Heide underground station is part of the first Munich underground line that runs between the Goetheplatz and Kieferngarten stations . Until the opening of the technical base in Fröttmaning, there was a provisional underground workshop north of the station. The originally intended name Nordfriedhof was replaced by the current name during the construction phase. After the first trains ran at the stop on the Munich U-Bahn open day on October 19, 1968, regular U-Bahn operations began on October 19, 1971. Like many stations on this route, the Alte Heide station was designed by Paolo Nestler .

The northern access was only built in 2002 and 2003. At the same time an elevator was retrofitted.

Location and surroundings

The station is located under Ungererstraße, which runs parallel, between the junctions of Dietersheimer Straße and Domagkstraße. The Alte Heide residential area , from which the station gets its name, is located west of the train station. To the east of it is the north cemetery . The northern part of the English Garden in the east and the Parkstadt Schwabing in the west are also within walking distance .

The route follows the Ungererstraße in both directions. The underground trains reach the Nordfriedhof underground station after 740 meters , in the opposite direction they come to the surface immediately behind the station and pass the Studentenstadt underground station, 660 meters away . The Marienplatz train station in the center of Munich is about five kilometers away and a ten-minute drive.

Station complex

construction

Like most underground stations in Munich, the Alte Heide underground station has a central platform in the middle of which a row of columns supports the station vault. While the northern exit leads to the surface at the intersection of Ungererstrasse and Domagkstrasse without a mezzanine, the southern exit leads to a barrier level that can be reached from both sides of Ungererstrasse via a total of three staircases. All entrances are escalators and fixed stairs, and the station has an elevator at its northern end.

layout

The blue strip of lines characteristic of main line 1 runs through the rear track walls, which are clad with gray fiber cement panels. The ceiling cladding consists of slats, with recesses left for the lighting. The cuboid columns are tiled in gray, the platform is covered with black and beige panels.

traffic

The U6 runs every 10 minutes at the station, every 5 minutes during peak times. Out of town, roughly every second underground train ends in Fröttmaning.

Metrobus line 50, which runs via Parkstadt Schwabing to Milbertshofen and Bogenhausen , stops on the surface .
