UE Sant Andreu is a Spanish football club from the district of Sant Andreu de Palomar in the Catalan city of Barcelona . The association founded in 1909 currently playing in the Segunda División B .

history

The beginnings

Young people from Sant Andreu del Palomar formed two sports associations in early 1909, called Zeta and Andreuenc . On October 8, 1909, both merged to form the Club de Fútbol Andreuenc . The first game after the merger ended on November 25, 1909 with a 2-0 win over Provençalenc. The club colors were red and white.

CF Andreuenc

In the 1909/10 season, the first in the club's history, the championship in the second Catalan league could be won immediately. This success could be repeated in 1917/18, but they were defeated 0: 3 in a play-off against FC Terrassa .

L'Avenç del Sport

In 1913 the club was founded in L'Avenç del Sport . This name goes back to the Catalan national poet and writer Ignasi Iglésias , who was a good friend of club founder Lluís Montell. In the following years, the club made a name for itself in the region and played against major city rivals FC Barcelona and Espanyol Barcelona , among others .

Unió Esportiva

On June 14, 1925, the merger of CF Andreuenc and L'Avenç del Sport was announced. The club was renamed Unió Esportiva Sant Andreu and strengthened by two other sports clubs. The cycling club Esport Ciclista Andreuenc and the athletics club Secció Atlètica Vida joined the football department.

It should take until the 1950/51 season before the Catalans were represented for the first time in the Segunda División . In the league, which is made up of an incredible 32 teams, a good sixth place was achieved straight away. Two years later, however, the club had to go back to the third division.

Only in 1969/70 succeeded in returning to the Segunda División, which has now been thinned to 20 clubs . By 1977, the club played eight years in a row in league 2. In the remote duel with FC Pontevedra and Córdoba CF , the Catalans finally had to admit defeat by an away defeat at Calvo Sotelo and relegated. Later she never returned to professional football. After several promotions and relegations, UE Sant Andreu was passed into the fourth division. After relegating from Segunda División B in 2006/2007 , Sant Andreu was promoted immediately after a year.
