Udatschnaja ( Russian Удачная ) is the name of a kimberlite vent , d. H. a diamond deposit in Udachny , in the northwest of the Sakha Autonomous Republic (Yakutia) in Russia . The chimney , a few kilometers south of the Arctic Circle, was discovered by Vladimir Shchukin in 1955 and represents the largest diamond deposit in Russia.

The deposit has been mined since 1982 . With a depth of 530 m, the Udachnaya mine is one of the deepest opencast mines in the world.
