Udo Kunz

Udo Kunz (born August 15, 1924 in Hauingen ; † June 28, 2015 there ) was a German mechanical engineer, entrepreneur and local politician.

Life

Udo Kunz grew up in the since 1975 to Loerrach associated Wiesental village Hauingen on. After attending the local elementary school and the metal technical school in Lörrach, he attended the aviation preschool in 1940, first in Eisenach , then in Suhl and finally in Luckenwalde . In the spring of 1943 he received his journeyman's certificate and was then drafted into the Wehrmacht as "special personnel". Returned to Hauingen from a brief prisoner-of-war camp in the summer of 1945, he worked in several companies in the region and in April 1953 passed the master craftsman's examination for mechanics and mechanical engineering. From 1953 to 1954 he worked as a foreman, initially in Brombachresident metalworking company Boschert, with which he later cooperated after he had set up his own locksmith's shop in 1954. This versatile handicraft company soon concentrated primarily on bicycles and mopeds and later expanded to become the Kunz dealership.

In 1976, Udo Kunz joined the Boschert metal works as the main shareholder and successor to Ludwig Boschert, which he expanded into a leading company in this branch in the Lörrach area. The company received a European patent for a groundbreaking invention in sheet metal working and in 1987 the Dr. Rudolf Eberle Prize , an innovation prize from the state of Baden-Württemberg. From 1958 to 1966 Udo Kunz was chairman of the Hauingen Electricity Cooperative (EGH), he was a member of the Hauingen municipal council several times (1959–1965 and 1971–1975) for the Free Voters and was deputy from 1971 to 1975, when Hauingen became part of Lörrach Mayor. From 1980 to 1991 he was a member of the municipal council of Lörrach and from 1973 to 1979 and from 1989 to 1991 a member of the district council of the district of Lörrach .

Honors

The politically and socially committed entrepreneur received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon in 1988 . In 1999 he founded the Udo and Johanna Kunz Foundation, which enables the elderly to live barrier-free in the Siegmeer residential complex in Hauingen. In January 2010, Udo Kunz was the first to receive the Markus Pflüger Prize from the city of Lörrach for his social commitment.
