Udo Mantau

Udo Mantau (born October 17, 1950 in Lippstadt ) is a German economist , market researcher and professor for economics of forestry and wood management at the Center for Wood Management at the University of Hamburg .

Life

Udo Mantau studied economics from 1971 to 1976 at the University of Bonn and the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg with a focus on law. He received his doctorate in 1976, then from 1976 to 1979 he went to the universities in Stockholm and Freiburg and subsequently took on various assignments in the wood industry. In 1981 he completed his habilitation on an econometric timber trade model. Research stays in Seattle , Berkeley and Freiburg took place until 1982 .

From 1983 to 1990 Mantau was head of the market research department at Heinze GmbH, a marketing service provider in the construction sector and a subsidiary of Bertelsmann AG . In 1991 he was offered the professorship for the economics of forestry and timber management at the Center for Timber Management at the University of Hamburg.

Mantau is the owner of the consulting company INFRO (information systems for raw materials). Udo Mantau is married and has two children.

research

Udo Mantau's main research areas are market and policy analyzes of the construction and timber market. Mantau has developed a total raw material bill for the raw material wood. Mantau headed the EUwood project, which also had a major impact on the European Forest Sector Outlook Study (EFSOS II). Most recently, with the Wood Flow Analysis, he created a complete material flow analysis of the wood from the forest through the processing stages, the energetic use and recycling flows, which was the basis of the EU project "Cascade".
