Ulf Oliver Poschardt (born March 25, 1967 in Nuremberg ) is a German journalist and author . Since September 6, 2016 he has been editor-in-chief of the “Welt-Gruppe” from Die Welt and Welt am Sonntag .

Life

Poschardt comes from a Protestant family, his father preached to the Methodists , his mother comes from Denmark . Poschardt did his community service in a Methodist institution in Hamburg. From 1987 to 1991 Poschardt studied journalism at the University of Munich and the German School of Journalism , as well as philosophy at the Munich University of Philosophy . In 1995 he did his doctorate with Friedrich Kittler on DJ Culture at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

From 1996 to 2000 he worked as editor-in-chief of the magazine of the Süddeutsche Zeitung . In the Tom Kummer scandal , it turned out that Poschardt had published his fake interviews and stories without checking. Thereupon he was dismissed by the SZ and he was hired in January 2001 as an advisor to the editor-in-chief of Welt am Sonntag . In July 2001 he became “Creative Director” there.

From 2005 to 2008 Poschardt was the founding editor-in-chief of the German edition of Vanity Fair , which appeared for the first time in February 2007 , but which only achieved poor sales figures. Poschardt left the magazine and returned to Axel Springer AG as deputy editor-in-chief of Welt am Sonntag . In 2009 Poschardt, in addition to his position as deputy editor-in-chief, was the publisher of the music magazines Rolling Stone (German licensed edition), Musikexpress and Metal Hammer , which were assigned to the world group after moving from Munich to Berlin in January 2010 . Poschardt took over the deputy editor-in-chief there in 2010, and since 2016 he has been the editor-in-chief of the “Welt-Gruppe”. In January 2019, Die Welt and Welt am Sonntag got their own editors-in-chief.

Journalism

Poschardt became known in 1995 for a doctoral thesis on the cultural history of disc jockey from 1904 to the 1990s. The book hit a popular topic and was translated into English, French, and Japanese. The expert Diedrich Diederichsen criticized Poschardt's interpretation of Hegel . In his short story Rave 1998, Rainald Goetz criticizes the lack of "real practice" in Poschardt's analysis. Poschardt dealt with socio-psychological topics of contemporary culture in numerous other books .

Before the general election in 2005 , he called for the election of the FDP . According to Poschardt, the mostly left-wing subculture should be understood by a CDU / CSU / FDP government under Merkel and Westerwelle as a new, revolutionary project. This triggered a columnist debate: the discussion that was sparked is less about the political dimension of pop and culture, according to critics, than about Poschardt and his role in the attention economy .

In 2019 Herbert Grönemeyer obtained a correction after a tweet from Poschardt about Grönemeyer's tax residence.

From 2019 to 2020, he alternated with Anja Reschke on a bi-weekly column on Twitter in the "dispute" section of the time .
