Ulrich Gabriel (born December 30, 1947 in Dornbirn ) is an Austrian artist. He created the stage name GAUL from the first two letters of his first and last name .

Life

After studying German and music education (piano, clarinet, singing), Gabriel worked as an AHS teacher from 1975. In the same year he also founded the Jeunesse musicale in Vorarlberg, which he directed until 1990. From 1975 to 1985 he was an author for the cabaret Wühlmäuse , from 1979 he also performed his own cabaret programs. From 1976 to 1980 Gabriel worked as a music critic for ORF Vorarlberg and the Neue Vorarlberger Tageszeitung . In 1980 he co-founded the Spielboden cultural center in Dornbirn , which he subsequently headed as chairman until 1986 and then again from 1998 to 2005 as managing director. In 1984 he founded the publishing house unartproduktion .

His column Neues vom Zanzenberg , which is occasionally illustrated by himself, has been published every Sunday in Wann & Wo magazine since 2002 .

politics

Ulrich Gabriel was the top candidate of the Greens in Vorarlberg in the National Council elections in 1986 and was subsequently also politically active in the federal executive committee of the Greens until 1990. During this time he was also responsible for the design of the green concern broadcasts on ORF for two years . B. for the sensational show Who builds the highways, eats small children .
