Ulrich Kaiser (sports journalist)

Ulrich Kaiser (born August 29, 1934 in Königsberg ; † March 1, 2015 in Groebenzell ) was a German sports journalist who lived in Groebenzell near Munich. He dealt mainly with the sports tennis and golf . Emperor's trademark was his often humorous and bizarre to maliciously pointed pen. He has received several awards for his work.

Professional vita

From 1959 Kaiser was the editor for the tennis department - later deputy editor-in-chief - at the young sports information service (sid), which at that time was still based in Düsseldorf. In 1969 he moved to the sid office in Munich. During the 1972 Summer Olympics , he headed the sid Olympic office there. As a result, Kaiser provided information about many international sporting events, including a total of seven soccer world championships , eight summer Olympic and eight winter games. A total of 44 times - more often than any other German sports journalist - he reported on the tennis competitions of the Wimbledon Championships .

From October 1981 on, Kaiser was editor-in-chief of the special interest magazine " Tennis Revue ", which was published by Limpert Verlag in 1998 and was discontinued in 1998 . Until March 1999 he was editor-in-chief of the magazine " Golf Journal " (successor: Stefan Engert). Then he worked as a freelance writer.

Publications

Kaiser wrote numerous individual publications and columns for various large newspapers and magazines and cabaret texts for the Munich laughing and shooting society . He also wrote - some of which appeared in large editions - sports books (e.g. "A thousand lousy tennis tricks"), rather humorous depictions ("It's not all golf that shines", "Talking is silver, silence is golf", “If Stalin had played golf” etc.) and anthologies , translated works into German, edited some of them himself and took part in some sports films. In 1976 he was co-author of a book portrait of the German show jumper Alwin Schockemöhle , in 1979 he edited the German edition of Gianni Clerici's compendium 500 years of tennis . Kaiser wrote humorous columns for the magazine Golf Time under the title “Der dicke Schorsch”. In recent times he has written numerous short biographies of athletes for the Hall of Fame of German Sports .

Awards (selection)

  • 2006: Bavarian Sports Prize in the “Outstanding Presentation of Sports” category. In the laudation for this, the head of the sports program department at Bayerischer Rundfunk, Werner Rabe, described him as "a veteran of sports journalism".
