Ulrich Lüttge

Ulrich Ernst Lüttge (born July 16, 1936 in Berlin ) is a German botanist and university professor. He was also known as an author of textbooks.

Life

Lüttge studied at the LMU Munich between 1954 and 1959 . Between 1959 and 1960 he moved to the then TH Darmstadt , where he received his doctorate in 1960. In 1964 he completed his habilitation at the TH Darmstadt, where he was appointed lecturer in 1965. In 1970 he was appointed full professor at the University of Darmstadt, where he worked until his retirement in 2004. Between 1993 and 2000 he was the spokesman for the Collaborative Research Center 199 “Molecular Ecophysiology of Plants”.

In 1996 Lüttge was elected a member of the Leopoldina . Lüttge has been an honorary member of the German Botanical Society since 2002 .

Lüttge also became known through a widespread botany textbook that he wrote together with Manfred Kluge and the graphic artist Gabriela Bauer and that was published in its sixth edition in 2012. In 2010, von Lüttge and two other authors published an extensive textbook "Botany: the comprehensive biology of plants" in the first edition.

Lüttge has been married since 1962 and has three children.
