Umberto Agnelli
Umberto Agnelli (born November 1, 1934 in Lausanne , † May 27, 2004 in Turin ) was an Italian entrepreneur .
Life
Umberto Agnelli studied law . In 1955 he took over the presidency of Juventus Turin from his brother Gianni . He successfully managed the club until 1967. Like his father Edoardo and brother Gianni, Umberto was a committed supporter of his team all his life and was their honorary president until his death.
From 1968, Umberto Agnelli led the international business of the Fiat - Group . From 1970 to 1976 he was Fiat chief executive. From 1980 he led the Agnelli family holding company Exor . In February 2003, Agnelli took over the presidency of Fiat after the death of his brother Giovanni. He tried to reorganize the ailing automobile company and was able to present a better company result in the 2003 financial year. Umberto Agnelli was also politically active. In 1976 he was elected to the Italian Senate for the Christian Democrats .
Umberto Agnelli married Antonella Bechi Piaggio in 1959 . From this marriage came his son Giovanni Alberto Agnelli , who died of cancer at the age of 33. In his second marriage, he was married to Allegra Caracciolo di Castagneto from 1974 and had two children with her, Andrea (* 1975) and Anna (* 1977).
Umberto Agnelli died of a May 27, 2004 at the age of 69 years suffering from cancer .
