The Union of the Fatherland ( Arabic الإتحاد من أجل الوطن al-Ittihad min adschl al-Watan ) is a political party in Libya , founded in 2012. Its stronghold is the municipality of Misrata .

The party is led by Abdurrahman Sewehli , a prominent opponent of the former leader Muammar al-Gaddafi . The party supports a strict decentralization of power at the local level, but rejects federalism . She proposes a semi-presidential system based on the French model . In doing so, it calls for a consistent break with the old regime and wants to ban people from political influence who held posts under Gaddafi's government.

The Union for Homeland won two out of 80 seats in the 2012 election for the Libyan National Congress . In the Second Libyan Civil War from 2014 onwards, she takes part on the side of the internationally recognized government (GNA) . Sevehli traveled to Kiev in February 2015 to buy weapons and met the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin there .
