The Kėdainiai Union Treaty

The Union of Kėdainiai (also Treaty of Kėdainiai , Lithuanian Kėdainių sutartis , Polish Układ w Kiejdanach ) was a treaty concluded on October 20, 1655 between the Lithuanian nobles Janusz Radziwiłł and Bogusław Radziwiłł and the representative of Sweden, Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie .

In fact, the treaty placed the Grand Duchy of Lithuania , oppressed in the east by the troops of Russian Tsar Alexei, under the protectorate of the Kingdom of Sweden . In connection with the Treaty of Ujście , in which the Polish voivodes Krzysztof Opaliński and Andrzej Grudziński betrayed the Polish king John II Casimir and handed over the territory of the Polish crown to the Swedish king Karl X Gustav without a fight, the Union of Kėdainiai effectively provided the total surrender to Poland -Lithuania before the Kingdom of Sweden.
