The University Studies Act (official abbreviation: UniStG ) was an Austrian federal law regulating the right to study at the then twelve scientific universities , the five art colleges and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (later: Universities of the Arts). The law was first published in the Federal Law Gazette for the Republic of Austria I No. 48/1997.

The UniStG replaced the General University Studies Act (AHStG) from 1966 , which was previously in force. However, the various subsidiary laws of the AHStG, the ministerial study regulations based on them and the study plans of universities and colleges based on them remain in force for students, provided that the duration of study per study section does not exceed the statutory duration of study plus one semester (calculated from the entry into force of one of the provisions of the UniStG based curriculum). For students who were still “studying on the basis of study regulations from the time before the AHStG came into force” (so-called old study regulations, ASVS), there was a shortened transition period until September 30, 2002.

At the end of December 31, 2003, the University Studies Act was replaced by the University Act 2002 , with the exception of the constitutional provisions that still exist . These remaining provisions were incorporated into the Federal Constitutional Law in 2008 and converted into simple legal regulations. With the University Law Amendment Act 2009 , the last remnants of the UniStG expired on September 30, 2009 ( Federal Law Gazette I No. 81/2009 ).
