The University of Management and Communication (FH) (UMC POTSDAM) was a private university of applied sciences in Potsdam , Berlin and Neuruppin with an international focus. In November 2009, the UMC's Science Council withdrew its accreditation because of “serious deficits”. In January 2010, the institution then filed for bankruptcy.

profile

UMC POTSDAM gGmbH was the sponsor of UMC POTSDAM (FH) . As a “partner university of business”, it was supported by a wide-ranging network of science, business, media, culture and educational institutions.

The university was characterized by a communication-based management understanding. The focus was on linking general management with specialist skills in the areas of marketing management , communication and human resource management, and business psychology .

Location

The headquarters of the university was in the listed former imperial main post office, the “Palais am Stadtkanal” on the Unity Square (formerly Wilhelmplatz) in Potsdam. Another area of the university was in Berlin-Mitte. The university's advanced training center was located there in the Tietzhöfe.

history

The history of the university began with an initiative made up of academics , marketing and communication experts and managers who were involved in the application-oriented training and further education of specialists and managers. The common goal was to found a university that would combine basic training with life-long and part-time training and create an effective qualification network for business and science. After more than three years of preparation, the university was officially recognized as a technical college by the Brandenburg Ministry for Science, Research and Culture (MWFK) on November 5, 2005.

In addition to basic BA courses and part-time MBA courses, the university offered evening and correspondence courses as well as seminars, workshops and in-house training for specialists and managers.

The loss of state accreditation in November 2009 caused speculation because of the political proximity of UMC President Eberhard Knödler-Bunte to Prime Minister Matthias Platzeck and other high-ranking SPD members.

Most of the students switched to the newly founded "BSP - Business School Potsdam (FH) - University of Applied Sciences for Management and Health", the rapid establishment of which provided further topics of discussion.

On February 18, 2010, preliminary insolvency proceedings were opened at the Potsdam District Court (AZ 35 IN 80/10).
