The University of the Pacific (also Pacific or UOP called) is a private university in Stockton in the US state of California . The main campus is in Stockton, with additional locations in San Francisco and Sacramento. There are currently 6,196 students enrolled, 4,615 of them in Stockton.

history

The University of the Pacific was founded on July 10, 1851 in Santa Clara under the name California Wesleyan College . In 1871 the college moved to San Jose and women were admitted to college . In 1911 the name was changed to College of the Pacific (COP) . It moved to Stockton in 1925 and was given its current name in 1961. In 1962 the UOP merged with the San Francisco College of Physicians and Surgeons and in 1966 with the McGeorge School of Law .
