history
According to legend, a statue of the Virgin Mary was washed ashore during a flood, from which the name Unserfrau am Sande was derived and which prompted pilgrimages . The original chapel, which is still preserved today, was built at the end of the 12th century, next to this the parish church was built from 1250, which was expanded during the Gothic and Baroque periods . The heyday of the pilgrimage was the 17th century, at that time there was a medicinal bath in the place , from which the cistern on the church forecourt can still be visited. The pilgrimage finally ebbed under Joseph II .
