Unteröwisheim is a district of Kraichtal in the Karlsruhe district in north-western Baden-Württemberg .
geography
Unteröwisheim lies in the hilly landscape of the Kraichgau . The municipal area is 1337 ha.
history
First mentioned in 771 as Auwinsheim , Unteröwisheim is distinguished from Oberöwisheim from 1227 . Presumably from the Counts of Calw via the Guelphs and Staufers , the place came into the possession of the Margraves of Baden before 1300 . 1346 left Margrave Hermann III. the Maulbronn monastery half of the local rule , the other half followed by 1411 at the latest. As with Maulbronn, the Palatinate exercised patronage over the place. Since the Reformation , Württemberg exercised the local rule and took over the Maulbronn nursing yard , the so-called Unteröwisheim Castle . The Reformation could only be fully implemented from 1557. In 1747, in exchange for Zaisenhausen , Sprantal and Gölshausen , Württemberg also acquired the Palatinate sovereignty. All of Unteröwisheim was part of Württemberg. The Württemberg people probably elevated Unteröwisheim to a town in the 17th century. In 1806 Unteröwisheim came to the Grand Duchy of Baden through the exchange and epuration contract and initially belonged to the Gochsheim office , from 1809 to the city office and first regional office in Bruchsal and from 1810 to 1819 to the second regional office in Bruchsal. From 1819 Unteröwisheim belonged to the Oberamt or District Office Bruchsal .
On September 1, 1971, Unteröwisheim merged with the city of Gochsheim and the communities of Bahnbrücken, Landshausen, Menzingen, Münzesheim, Neuenbürg, Oberacker and Oberöwisheim to form the new city of Kraichtal.
In 2005 Unteröwisheim had 3252 inhabitants.
