Prussia

In the Kingdom of Prussia , the royal officials still carried the designations “Heidewärter” and “Heideläufer” in the first half of the 18th century. The associated service apartments were called Heidehaus. From 1742 there was the name "Unterförster". For the civil servant, who was still known as the “Heideläufer” in 1727, the term “walking forester” appears from 1740:

"... a walking forester can cover over six hundred to eight hundred hectares (one hectare contains four Hessian acres ) of contiguous forest area and over two hundred and fifty hectares of scattered wood, but not too far apart ."

No one could get the job of a walking forester who had not served in the Jäger-Carabiniere battalion for at least two years . The salary of the outgoing foresters was determined according to the size of their territory , but it could not exceed the sum of 800 francs .

Russia

In 1722 the forest protection according to the Peter the Great - Ukas was established and the position of today's Russian sub-forester ( Russian лесник ) was introduced. He is subordinate to the forestry master ( мастер леса ) of a forestry ( лесничество ). As a sub-forester, after preparation, you work in the forest school, college or technical center, after completing the special courses.

Lithuania

The sub-forester ( Lithuanian: Eigulys ) is a forester who looks after one or several sub-foresters (lit. Eiguva ). He is responsible for forest protection , forest supervision and observation, also for a forest tree nursery , if there is one. As a rule, a few sub- foresters work in a Lithuanian forester , less often or none at all. He is subordinate to the district forester ( girininkas ) and is accountable to him . He should, for example, inform the district forester or his deputy ( girininko pavaduotojas ) about the forest damage and other inconsistencies. In Lithuania, a forestry technical college degree, other relevant specialized secondary (higher) education or completion of specialized courses after general education is required. In 2006 there were over 1,000 sub-rangers (1922: around 2,900).
