Upende

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Upende is a village in the South Brookmerland district of Oldeborg . It is first mentioned in 1470 as Uthenger up eende . The current spelling has been in use since 1645. The name means upper (= extreme) end. Upende is still part of the Engerhafe parish.

In 1938 the formerly independent rural communities of Engerhafe , Fehnhusen , Oldeborg and the western part of Upende were combined to form the larger municipality of Oldeborg, which together roughly comprised the area of the medieval parish Engerhafe. The eastern part of Upende was added to the former municipality of Victorbur .

The municipalities of Victorbur and Oldeborg went on July 1, 1972 as part of a territorial reform in the municipality of Südbrookmerland , of which they are still a part.
