The territory of Uppsala län makes up 1.7% of the area of the Swedish national territory. On January 1, 2007 the municipality of Heby moved from the province of Västmanland County to the Province of Uppsala County. This was what 57.7 percent of the population wanted in a referendum in 1998. The formal resolution was then passed on September 23, 2005.
