Uroš Umek

Uroš Umek (born May 16, 1976 in Ljubljana , Yugoslavia , now Slovenia ) is a Slovenian DJ and music producer ; his nickname is Fotr (father).

Career

He started organizing techno parties in his hometown in 1993; his work contributed significantly to the popularity of this musical style in Slovenia. In the meantime he is also known internationally. In 2007 he was voted number 29 of the top 100 international DJs by DJ Magazine. Umek was known for his legendary 3-turntable sets, which he underlined with effects. This includes the live set from “I LOVE TECHNO 2001” and “Mayday 2002”. Umek had turned to digital technology and played with Midicontroller and Ableton Live for a while. His style also went through different phases. From tribal techno, he changed his style to minimal techno around 2005 , before producing and also DJing more tech house at the end of the decade . Today Umek is playing techno again and producing music very successfully. His publications are regularly in the top 10 of the Beatport techno charts.

Labels

His first own labels were Consumer Recreation , Recycled Loops and Astrodisco . His latest label is called "1605" (sixteenofive), which deals more with techno and minimal .

Events

He played at major events such as Mayday , Nature One , Love Parade and Time Warp Festival and toured Australia and the United States. His productions and remixes for Chris Liebing and others appear on Primate Recordings .
