The fundamental structure is the structure in pieces of tonal music in the reduction analysis of Heinrich Schenker . The original sentence is the most reduced form of the presentation of music.

In Schenker's theory, every tonal work is based on such a structure, mostly a third (see picture) or a fifth . This structure can then be worked out in a variety of ways. As Urlinie is called the line of the upper voice alone when fundamental structure the Urlinie with the bass .
