Uwe Bartels

Uwe Bartels (*  17th May 1946 in Quakenbrück ) is a German politician of the SPD . He was Lower Saxony's Agriculture Minister from October 1998 to March 2003 and Mayor of Vechta from February 2005 to October 2011 . Since October 2012 Uwe Bartels has been chairman of the “ Agricultural and Nutrition Forum Oldenburger Münsterland ”.

Life

Uwe Bartels attended the Antonianum Vechta high school , which he graduated from high school in 1966 . From 1966 to 1968 he worked for two years in the Bundeswehr . In 1968 he began studying at the Lower Saxony University of Education in Vechta. He passed the first teacher examination in 1972 and the second teacher examination in 1973.

In 1972 Bartels joined the SPD. From June 21, 1978 to June 20, 1990 (9th to 11th electoral term) and from October 23, 2002 to February 22, 2005 (14th and 15th electoral term) he was a member of the Lower Saxony State Parliament . From 1978 to 1990 he was also the environmental policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group . From June 1990 to October 1998 Bartels was State Secretary in the Lower Saxony Ministry of Agriculture. From October 1998 to March 2003 he was Lower Saxony's Minister of Agriculture . After being elected mayor of Vechta in June 2004, he resigned his state parliament mandate on February 23, 2005. The political support of the "orphaned constituency" took over for the rest of the legislative period (2005-2008) Claus Peter Poppe .

Even before his election as mayor of Vechta, Uwe Bartels was active in local politics as a member of the district council of the Vechta district , as a councilor in the Vechta city ​​council and as chairman of the Vechta subdistrict of the SPD .

Bartels is married and has two children.
