Václav Karel Holan Rovenský

Václav Karel Holan Rovenský (* 1644 in Rovensko pod Troskami ; † February 27, 1718 at Valdštejn Castle near Sedmihorek) was a Czech composer.

Holan probably attended the Jesuit school in Jičín . He then worked as an organist and conductor in Rovensko, Turnov and Dobrovice . In 1674 he traveled to Rome to take part in the procession to mark the opening of the jubilee year .

Around 1680 Holan became an organist and conductor on Vyšehrad in Prague . A St. John and St. Matthew Passion (1690 and 1692) and a cantional ( Capella Regia Musicalis , 1693–94) with several hundred melodies were created here.

In 1694 Holan retired as a hermit to the ruins of Valdštejn Castle, where he died in 1718.
