Väinö Korhonen (born December 21, 1926 in Swetogorsk , Russian SFSR ) is a former Finnish pentathlete and fencer .

Career

Korhonen appeared at the Melbourne Olympics in 1956 in both modern pentathlon and fencing . In the individual, he finished third behind Lars Hall and his compatriot Olavi Mannonen , which meant winning the bronze medal. In the team competition, to which Berndt Katter also contributed in addition to Korhonen and Mannonen , he also won bronze. In epee fencing, he was eliminated in the group stage as sixth in his group.

At world championships in modern pentathlon he was runner- up with the team in 1957 and 1959 , and in 1958 he won bronze with the team. His best result in the individual was a fourth place in 1957.

1954 and 1955 he was Finnish champion in fencing.
