Víctor García de la Concha (born January 2, 1934 in Villaviciosa , Asturias ) is a Spanish philologist. From 1998 to 2010 he was director of the Real Academia Española and has been director of the Instituto Cervantes since 2010 .

De la Concha graduated as a philologist from the University of Oviedo and as a theologian from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome . He taught at the Universities of Valladolid , Murcia , and Saragossa and as a full professor of Spanish literature in Salamanca .

In 1992 he became a full member of the Real Academia Española , its secretary the following year and director in 1998.

Garcia has received numerous honors and awards, including the Premio Internacional Menéndez Pelayo and an honorary doctorate from the University of Tegucigalpa .
