The VEB sewing machine works Altenburg was a state-owned company, consisting of three former sewing machine works in Altenburg in East Thuringia .

The first sewing machine factory in Altenburg called "Dietrich und Co" was founded in 1871, on July 1st. The founders were Leopold Oskar Dietrich, Hermann Köhler and Gustav Winselmann. Just two years later, Dietrich left the company and founded his own factory. In 1880 a new factory was built in what is now the old factory park (Friedrich-Ebert-Straße), where the Vesta was also produced. Winselmann founded the sewing machine factory “Gustav Winselmann” in Zwickauer Strasse in 1891, while that of Hermann Köhler (Käthe-Kollwitz-Strasse) was converted into a stock corporation in 1921. It was nationalized on May 10, 1947, and one year later it was merged with the company "LO Dietrich". The company had a rest home in Lauscha . In 1990, the re-privatization took place, the new name was ALTIN ( Al tenburger T extil i ndustry n ähmaschinen). However, this company did not survive long.
