British VOLMET broadcast on shortwave

VOLMET (French vol = flight and météo = weather report) is weather information for aircraft in flight.

The sound recordings sent in English contain the METAR (space weather with trend), TAF (forecast) and SIGMET (warnings) from selected airports in a region and are updated every half hour.

The information is sent on reserved frequencies by aeronautical service stations. In some cases it is also possible to listen to VOLMET over the phone (e.g. Zurich LSZH on +41 43 931 60 71).

Germany , according to the Air Navigation Plan (ANP) of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Part 6 obliged to broadcast VOLMET.

The automatic VOLMET broadcast (AVAS) is carried out in Germany by the Deutsche Flugsicherung (DFS), which operates the transmission systems in Bremen , Berlin and Frankfurt am Main in the frequency ranges of the aeronautical radio service. The supply of METARs is provided by the German Weather Service (DWD).
