The VW L80 is a light truck from the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand , which was produced in Brazil between 1995 and 2000 as the successor to the MAN-VW G90.

General

When the G90 series, which was developed jointly with MAN and based on the VW LT , expired in 1993 , VW decided to sell its own, particularly light truck for the 7.5-ton truck market. This had a very high payload of up to 3.7 tons in relation to the gross vehicle weight , depending on the wheelbase and body. The cabin was almost identical to the previous model and was also tiltable. A new grille , a different body-colored bumper and different headlights gave it a new look.

The L80 was manufactured by Volkswagen as a chassis with a driver's cab. Superstructures such as the tow truck , skip skip , loading platform , tipping bridge and box body were manufactured by various body manufacturers in cooperation with Volkswagen.

There was only one type of engine for the model series: a four-cylinder turbodiesel from MWM-Brazil with a displacement of 4.3 liters and a 5-speed manual transmission. As early as 1995, it fulfilled the pollutant limit values of the Euro 2 emissions standard, which was only required from 1996, and developed 103 kW (140 PS). In 1997, the engine was modified due to the stricter emissions regulations, it met the Euro 2 emissions standard and developed 104 kW (141 hp). The car reaches a top speed of 115 km / h. The fuel tank holds 150 l, the L80 consumes 13 to 15 liters of diesel fuel per 100 km.

The driver's cab offers three seats and was available as standard in Star White, Shanghai Yellow, Dayton Red (see picture) and Bahama Blue. The vehicle is driven by the rear wheels. The permissible trailer load is 3,500 kg braked and 750 kg unbraked. The standard equipment included double rear tires , rev counter , ventilation flap on the roof of the driver's cab, engine brake , rear fog lights and power steering .

In 2000, VW stopped selling the truck in Europe due to the renewed stricter emissions regulations. In Brazil, however, the model continues to be modernized as VW Delivery and VW Worker .
