Vaginal tumor

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A vaginal tumor is a tumorous change in the area of the vagina .

Female vaginal tumors

Primary vaginal tumors are rather rare tumor diseases. The majority of malignant tumors are secondary tumors that originate from the adjacent genital organs ( vulva , uterus ) or arise as metastases (especially from other genital tumors ).

Epithelial tumors
Benign tumors of the vagina ( vaginal polyps ) are very rare. Cancer precursors such as vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia are much rarer than in the area of the uterus or the cervix . More than 90% of malignant tumors ( vaginal carcinomas ) are squamous cell carcinomas , the remainder are adenocarcinomas .
Mesenchymal tumors
Benign mesenchymal tumors show up as small nodules. They act as fibroids , uterine fibroids , neurofibromas , hemangiomas , myxoma , or mixed tumors. Malignant mesenchymal tumors ( sarcomas ) make up less than 2% of all malignant vaginal tumors. The most common here is the embryonic rhabdomyosarcoma , which occurs mainly in childhood. Leiomyosarcomas occur in adult women .

Vaginal tumors in animals

In domestic dogs , vaginal tumors account for around 2% of all tumor diseases. They occur mainly in uncastrated older bitches and are mostly benign (leiomyomas, fibroids, polyps). The transferable sticker sarcoma also occurs in southern Europe . Vaginal tumors are relatively common in older domestic guinea pigs , with leiomyomas predominating here.
