Van Slingelandt
Van Slingelandt is the name of a noble family from the city of Dordrecht that still exists today.
history
The noble family "Van Slingelandt" was mentioned for the first time in the year 1263 in the lease of Otto van Slingelandt, "cognatus" (blood related) of Jan I. van Arkel with a piece of land called Slickland . The further family tree of the sex is in the dark. In the 17th century Jacob van Oudenhoven wrote, among other things, that the noble family Van Slingelandt came from a younger son of a gentleman Van Arkel; When they died around 1300, the Slickland land came back into the possession of Mr Van Arkel. In 1307 the piece of land was transferred to his brother Herbaren van Arkel, whose descendants called themselves Slingelandt again.
Willem Jansz is considered to be the progenitor of the Dordrecht patrician and regent family . van Slingeland, City Gate (1429). This could be a son of Dordrecht's mayor Jan van Slingeland van den Tympel , who belonged to the Van Arkels family and was also related to the Van Cuijk .
In the golden age of the Netherlands , the Van Slingelandts were one of the most influential state-minded families in Dordrecht's history. Together with other rulers such as the De Witt , Van Beveren and the Muys van Holy, they formed a powerful oligarchical patriciate and thus also gained influence at the state level.
