Vatapá is an Afro-Brazilian dish; it is particularly characteristic of the city of Salvador da Bahia and its surroundings.

Vatapá is a mash consisting of fish, nut kernels, dried shrimp, soaked bread, Dendê -Oil, coconut milk and spices (coriander, parsley, ginger and others) is produced. Because of its elaborate production process, it is not an everyday dish, but in Bahia it is typically served with acarajé and various moquecas .

Its importance for Afro-Brazilian culture is also evident from the fact that the singer Gal Costa dedicated a song to this dish (“Vatapá”, on the LP / CD “Gal canta Caymmi”); This dish also appears in Jorge Amado's books, such as “Dona Flor and her two husbands”.
