Verbal Delirium is a Greek rock band from Athens that was formed in 1999.

history

The band was founded in the summer of 1999 by keyboardist and singer John "Jargon" Kosmidis and bassist Nik Michailidis. In the period that followed, the two of them changed their line-up several times, before guitarist Giorgos Maniatis and drummer Lazaros Papanastasiou joined them as permanent members in 2005. In 2007 a first demo appeared under the name The Imprisoned Words of Fear . After that, the line-up of the band changed again, adding Nikitas Kissonas as the new guitarist and Tolis Liapis as the new drummer. In January and March 2009, the band recorded their debut album So Close and Yet So Far Away , which was released in November 2010 on Musea Records . After the recordings, Liapis left the group and was replaced by Gregory “Enthralling Kernel G” Pavlakos. In March 2011, Anastasis Hamilakis also joined the band as a keyboardist. The publication also followed various appearances, such as in 2012 at the Eurock Marathon in Berlin . In February 2013, the second album From the Small Hours of Weakness was released as a self-published free download on their Bandcamp website. The digipak version of the album was released in September and then played on ProgPower Europe in October . On October 28, 2014, the band performed at the UK's Summer's End Festival , after which they opened for God Is an Astronaut in Athens on October 8 .

style

According to progarchives.com , the band initially dedicated themselves to progressive and psychedelic rock of the 1960s and 1970s, before adding more modern elements a short time later. The Imprisoned Words of Fear still offers complex progressive and psychedelic rock from the 1970s with large arrangements and complex sound sequences. In addition, influences from metal and jazz are incorporated . After the demo they devoted themselves more to alternative rock. According to Jeff B from seaoftranquility.org , the band on From the Small Hours of Weakness plays dark, melodic and very emotional progressive rock that is also innovative and modern. The album offers a mixture of old and modern elements of the genre, so influences from bands like King Crimson , Van der Graaf Generator , Porcupine Tree and Riverside are obvious.
