history

The association was founded on March 17, 1991 at CeBIT by Ulrich Kampffmeyer as the Association of Optical Information Systems. In 1999 the association changed its name to the VOI Association for Organizations and Information Systems, keeping the abbreviation VOI. The abbreviation VOI was also interpreted as the "Voice of Information" in the following years. He has had an office with a full-time managing director since 1998. In 2010 the association had around 250 member companies. In 2011 the board of the VOI proposed transferring the association to BITKOM . The general assembly rejected this by a majority because it would have meant the dissolution of the association. The rejection in the general meeting led to the resignation of several members, who then constituted new ones within BITKOM and thereby replicated the fields of work and structures of the VOI. In 2012 the association had around 200 member companies and was meeting its statutory objectives of being the "Voice of Information" to provide information about the benefits of information technology, especially in the field of Enterprise Content Management (ECM). For this purpose, the information portal ECMtoday was launched, on which specialist articles and user reports on ECM solutions are published. In September 2013 the VOI realigns itself and supplements its requirements with the positioning on Enterprise Information Management (EIM). “With its new strategy, the association is adding even more growth and added value with the trend reversal from ECM to EIM. The VOI extends ECM and defines Enterprise Information Management (EIM) as the merging of structured data, unstructured documents and the associated business applications. "
