Verena Blechinger-Talcott

Verena Blechinger-Talcott (* 1966 in Deggendorf ) is a German Japanologist .

Life

Blechinger-Talcott studied Japanese Studies, Political Science and Law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich from 1985 to 1991 and completed his Magister Artium 1991 (Japanese Studies / Political Science / Law). At this university she was a research assistant at the Institute for East Asian Studies from 1993 to 1997 , where she received her doctorate in political science in 1997 .

From 1997 to 2002 she was a research assistant at the German Institute for Japanese Studies (DIJ) in Tokyo (2000–2002: Head of the Department of Social Sciences / 2001–2002: Deputy Director). From 1999 to 2002, she was head of the social sciences department at DIJ Tokyo. From 1999 to 2004 she was a lecturer at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Münster . From 2000 to 2002 she was a lecturer (hijôkin kôshi) at the Institute of Social Science at Tōkyō University . From 2001 to 2002 she was Deputy Director at DIJ Tokyo. From 2002 to 2003 she was an Advanced Research Fellow, Program on US-Japan Relations, at Harvard University . From 2003 to 2004 she was Assistant Professor in the Department of Government at Hamilton College .

Blechinger-Tolcott has been a professor of Japanese politics and economics in the Department of History and Cultural Studies at the Free University of Berlin since 2004 .

Her main research interests are the politics of Japan and East Asia from a comparative perspective, in particular relations between politics and the economy, social politics, party financing, corruption and Japanese external relations.
