Traffic post
Traffic post (VP) is the service that an officially authorized agent performs to guide road users . The VP serves the safety and ease of traffic . Traffic posts act as a sovereign on the traffic and exercise a sovereign task.

Signs are given with defined arm movements:
- Lateral extension of one arm or both arms across the direction of travel: "Stop before the intersection". Cross traffic is released. If the official has given this sign, it continues to apply as long as he waves in the same direction or just maintains his basic position. The released traffic can turn according to the rules of § 9 StVO, but only to the left if it does not hinder rail vehicles.
- Raising an arm: "Wait for the next sign in front of the intersection", for road users in the intersection: "Clear the intersection".
These characters can be supplemented or changed by individual instructions. The changes for the direction releases are mostly supported by sound signals ( whistle ).
At other street locations, such as junctions and pedestrian crossings , the signs have a corresponding meaning.
Until the 1970s, this was done from a pedestal . However, even today, pedestals with red / white, reflective paintwork can still be found in Berlin, for example. Historically, white gloves and a white cloth skirt were worn to improve visibility. The signal trowel or the traffic staff are still used today to provide support .
German legal bases are § 36 Abs. 1 StVO , § 76 Abs. 3 Satz 2 ff. StVO, general administrative regulation for road traffic regulations as well as country-specific additional provisions to the StVO.
Construction workers warn the traffic by waving red and white flags and, if the permit is given, may refer road users to other parts of the street or ask them to stop.
