The Administrative Court of Gießen is one of five first instance courts of administrative jurisdiction in Hesse and has its seat in Gießen .

Seat and District of the Court

The court has its seat at Marburger Strasse 4 in Giessen. It is in close proximity to other Giessen judicial authorities such as the district court , regional court , social court , public prosecutor's office and penal institution.

The judicial district comprises the districts of Gießen , Marburg-Biedenkopf and the Lahn-Dill district , the Vogelsberg district and the Wetterau district . Thus, with the Justus Liebig University of Giessen and the Philipps University of Marburg, there are two universities and the Technical University of Central Hesse is one of the largest German universities of applied sciences in the judicial district; University admission procedures make up a large proportion of the procedures.

With ten chambers and 38 judge posts, the second largest administrative court in Hesse (after the Administrative Court in Frankfurt am Main ) is subordinate to the Hessian Administrative Court in Kassel .

history

At the beginning of 1980, two external chambers of the Wiesbaden Administrative Court were relocated to Gießen. These were located in Lahnstrasse. When the burden became too great, a separate administrative court in Gießen was created on January 1, 1987. This initially comprised five chambers. The spatial capacities quickly no longer met the requirements, so that the court moved to Talstrasse.

In 1991 the jurisdiction of the court was expanded to include asylum procedures , so that the court was again burdened with a heavy burden. As a result, one chamber was established in 1991 and three more chambers in 1992. The court now comprised nine chambers, which led to a branch at Friedrich-List-Strasse 25 (at times the seat of the labor court ). At the same time, the judicial district was expanded to include the Wetterau district .

The court has been located in the new building on Marburger Strasse since 1994.

Historical lore

The old files of the Administrative Court of Gießen are kept in the Hessian State Archives in Darmstadt . The inventory includes around 18 running meters of files covering different areas of law (construction law, municipal law, police and regulatory law, school and university law, social law and much more). Asylum procedures and admission procedures for university studies make up the largest part of the stock. Parts of the holdings have already been developed and can be researched online.

art

In the building of the administrative court there are several works of art, among others by Günther Blau , Klaus Schlosser and Dieter Otto Berschinski.
