The University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences (Czech Veterinární a farmaceutická univerzita Brno , English University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno ) in Brno is a College of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy .

history

The university was founded as a veterinary university in 1918 and was the first re-establishment of Czechoslovakia after the First World War. The model was the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna, today's University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna . The founding director was Prof. Edward Babák. In 1919 the university worked in 18 departments and clinics. From 1952 to 1968 the University of Veterinary Medicine was subordinated to the Brno University of Agriculture.

In 1994 the University of Veterinary Medicine was renamed to today's University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Brno . The institute for further training in veterinary medicine was founded in 1992.

The Kaunitz dormitory ( Kounicovy studentské koleje ) was built in 1922/1923 and named after Count Kaunitz ( Václav Robert hrabě z Kounic ). The buildings have been a national cultural monument since 1978.

The VFU is the publisher of the science magazine "Acta Veterinaria Brno".
