The sculpture ensemble Vier Jahreszeiten is located in Bremen - Schwachhausen in the Bürgerpark near the Park Hotel Bremen . It is included in the list of monuments and statues of the city of Bremen .

The four bronze sculptures Spring , Summer , Autumn and Winter from 1991 on a stone plinth are each 2.2 mx 1.6 m x 1.6 m in size and were made by the sculptor Bernd Altenstein . They were erected for the 125th anniversary of the Bremen Bürgerpark in 1866, based on plans by Wilhelm Benque .

The artist allegorically depicts the four seasons on the shores of Lake Hollersee :

  • Spring through a pair of lovers, an old man and the budding tree (Lage) ;
  • Summer by two people, one diving through a ring, the other throwing her arm in the air (location) ;
  • Autumn through three turned figures; a man is holding a ladder and talking to an elder and a woman appears to be gathering vegetables or fruits (location) ;
  • Winter with contrasting motifs shows a couple of men dancing in motion and a quieter scene in which a man slips into the future through a circular structure like a year circle (location) .

The Hollersee is reflected in the background and the Parkhotel with its buildings from 1954, 1958, 1963, 1968 and 2004 stands.

From Altenstein there are still u. a. Das Ende (1978) in the Wallanlagen , unfolding in the Reeder-Bischoff-Straße , Waller Talks (1981) on the Wartburgplatz in Walle , Blockdieker Talks (1982) in Osterholz , cycle work (1985), relief on the, working hands ( 1987) in Gröpelingen on the market square, convalescent at the Bremen-Mitte Clinic , Our Planet on the Domshof and Fietje Balge (2001) Behind the Schütting , at the Bremen market square .
