Viktor Wesselak (born March 11, 1965 in Erlangen ) is a German engineering scientist and professor at the Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences .

academic career

Wesselak studied electrical engineering from 1984 to 1990 at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Automatic Control until 1998 . In 1999 he received his doctorate with a thesis on regulatory technical contributions to the power-optimal operation of solar systems for Dr.-Ing. He then worked as a development engineer at Siemens from 1999 to 2003 , focusing primarily on control methods for drive technology.

In 2003 he was appointed professor for regenerative energy systems at the Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences, where he set up the first nationwide undergraduate course on renewable energies. Until 2005 he was also the Dean of Studies . Since 2005 he has been Vice Rector or Vice President for Research and University Development at the Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences. In 2009 the Institute for Regenerative Energy Technology (in.RET) was founded as an in-institute of the Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences, of which he is the institute spokesman.

Positions

Viktor Wesselak is of the opinion that a sustainable energy supply in Germany based on renewable energies is possible. The heating sector and a link between the electricity and mobility sectors play a key role in this. Due to the associated thermodynamic devaluation of energy, Wesselak is skeptical of the direct use of electrical energy for heat supply ( power-to-heat ) and large-scale storage using methanation ( power-to-gas ).
