Vincent of Agen

According to Christian legend, Vincent of Agen was a deacon and martyr in the 3rd or 4th century in Venetum near Agen in southern France . According to tradition from the year 550, he made the sign of the cross during a ceremony of the pagan sun cult in which a fire wheel was used and thus extinguished the fire. After Vincent was arrested and professed Christianity , he was mistreated and beheaded. Christians bury him. When his body was found about 150 years later, it was completely indestructible and was solemnly buried again.

The veneration of St. Vincent, of which Venantius Fortunatus and Gregory of Tours also report, was at its height in the 6th century .
