Virtus Pallacanestro Bologna ( Virtus Bologna for short ) is one of the most famous Italian basketball clubs from Bologna . He plays in the Lega Basket Serie A and played his home games at times in the PalaMalaguti ( called Unipol Arena since 2011 ), which is not in Bologna itself, but in neighboring Casalecchio di Reno . Virtus was founded in 1879 as a gymnastics club. The basketball department was founded in 1920. Virtus Bologna won the Italian championship 14 times and the Italian cup eight times .
