The Vogtland antiquity research association in Hohenleuben is a German history association based in Hohenleuben and the oldest in Thuringia and one of the first in Germany. It is based in the Reichenfels-Hohenleuben Museum on the grounds of the Reichenfels castle ruins and runs the Hohenleuben-Reichenfels Museum there.

history

The association was founded on December 29, 1825 on the initiative of Dr. med. Julius Schmidt (1796–1872) and deacon and pastor Friedrich Alberti (1796–1861) from Hohenleuben and pastor Conrad Benjamin Meißner from Döhlen . 63 members attended the first general meeting on August 31, 1826 in Hohenleuben Castle. Among them were the ruling Russian prince Heinrich LXII. zu Schleiz, Heinrich LXXII. to Lobenstein-Ebersdorf and Heinrich XIX. to Greiz. The Plauen Antiquities Association (since 1990 Association for Vogtland History, Folklore and Regional Studies eV) was founded as a branch association .

Pastor Krug was re-elected as "club leader" in January 1934, but retired in October of the same year. The topping-out ceremony for the museum was still celebrated in 1939, but due to the war it was no longer set up. The last lecture before the end of the war was given in October 1944. Above all, the association's collections and library should be accessible in the museum. The district museum was not set up until 1950, the first purpose-built museum in the GDR. From 1956 there is a full-time librarian. The association publishes annual reports and, as a continuation of them, a yearbook since 1951.

The members of the association included Gerhard Engelmann , Robert Hänsel , Johannes Leipoldt , Ottogerd Mühlmann , Werner Radig , Berthold Schmidt (deputy chairman, 1885), Friedrich Schneider , Rudolf Virchow (honorary member).
