Voinjama is the capital of Lofa County in Liberia , West Africa . The city is located near the border with Guinea and is surrounded by forested mountains at an altitude of about 550 meters.

history

During the Liberian Civil War, the existing infrastructure - which includes the Tellewoyan Memorial Hospital , a small power station for generating electricity, schools, a police station and a customs post - was destroyed and looted by the warring parties. Since the end of the war, the permanent presence of the UN blue helmet soldiers in the border region has ensured security. The hospital was rebuilt in a different location, the transport network is in relatively good condition, there is also a radio transmitter and a field airfield for domestic flights. A significant part of the population and civil war refugees are involved in the reconstruction of the city. Rice cultivation, fruit and vegetable cultivation and the production of palm oil products are used as the economic basis of the region . Gold and diamonds can be found in the river valleys.
